Searching for fulfillment in our lives reached the gateway to a path in 1984 when circumstances brought us together singing opposite each other in Puccini's opera, "Tosca." We gradually realized we had much in common through many subsequent performances together and, most importantly, Transcendental Meditation/TM Sidhi Programs. So, after accumulating over 40 years in the evolutionary process of music and meditation, another shift took place in our comfortable lives. What was it?
The answer was brought in 2004 by our friend, Robert Pyszkowski, who offered to teach us something called Reiki. We realized a cycle was beginning which adapted the basic principles of meditation and music: "There's always more stillness and simplicity to be found in the evolutionary process, so why not apply what we're teaching to ourselves?"The next cycle officially began in 2008 in the United States through The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT). That year, we completed Reiki I and II taught by Kathie Lipinski, and subsequently studied with William Lee Rand, President of the ICRT, completing ART (Advanced Reiki Training) and Master/Teacher; and in 2009, Karuna Reiki®. Soon after, a decision was made to shed many of the non-Reiki workshops and dedicate our time to teaching and practicing Reiki. Two significant projects included bringing Reiki to the general public and developing a volunteer program in a home for the elderly, teaching them Reiki (refer to articles in pdf format linked on this page below).
Searching for simplicity, tradition, and direct teaching. We heard about a type of schooling in Kyoto, Japan, called Jikiden Reiki® (Reiki, direct teaching) which maintained teaching in the Japanese tradition, following a direct lineage to Mr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki. Mr. Usui taught Dr. Chijuro Hayashi, who taught Mrs. Chiyoko Yamaguchi, who, in turn, taught her son, Mr. Tadao Yamaguchi. In May 2012 we attended a Jikiden Reiki® Shoden & Okuden seminar taught by visiting guest, Mr. F rank Arjava Petter, Vice-Chair Representative of the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyu-Kai (Institute); followed by Shihan-Kaku in May 2013 and Shihan in May 2014. In November 2014, we reviewed seminars in Halifax, Nova Scotia with Mr. Yamaguchi, the President and co-founder of the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyu-Kai. This experience turned our lives around!
Reiki is our passion and dedication to teaching it our pledge. Dedicated to the foundation of Reiki and its practice, we are currently teaching Jikiden Reiki® exclusively and in the Japanese tradition! Thank you, teachers and mentors, especially Bob, Kathie, and William for the Western-style Reiki training, Mrs. Takata for her contribution in spreading Reiki worldwide, and Mr. Petter for visiting and bringing Jikiden Reiki to our neighborhood, and Mr. Yamaguchi who led us back to the true source of Reiki. With deepest gratitude to our lineage: Usui sensei, Hayashi sensei, and Yamaguchi sensei.
The cycle begins again!
Love and gratitude,
